Configuring Registrar DNS Settings in Plesk

2 min read

To properly connect your domain to your Plesk hosting, you must configure the DNS settings at your domain registrar. This guide walks you through the steps to set up and manage these settings effectively.

Step 1: Log in to Your Domain Registrar Account #

  1. Open the website of your domain registrar (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.).
  2. Log in using your username and password.

Step 2: Locate DNS Management #

  1. Find the domain you want to configure.
  2. Look for an option like DNS Management, Manage DNS, or DNS Settings.
  3. Click on it to access the DNS records for your domain.

Step 3: Update Nameservers (If Necessary) #

  1. Check if your registrar is using default nameservers or custom ones.
  2. If required, update the nameservers to point to your Plesk server (your hosting provider should provide the nameservers).
    • Example:
      • ns1.hostwebo.cloud
      • ns2.hostwebo.cloud
  3. Save the changes.

Step 4: Verify DNS Records in Plesk #

  1. Log in to your Plesk control panel.
  2. Navigate to Websites & Domains > DNS Settings for the domain.
  3. Ensure the DNS records (A, MX, CNAME, etc.) in Plesk match those required for your domain setup.

Step 5: Add or Edit DNS Records at the Registrar (If Needed) #

  1. Return to the registrar’s DNS management page.
  2. Add or update records as necessary to point to your Plesk hosting:
    • A Record: Points the domain to your server’s IP (e.g., 123.45.67.89).
    • MX Record: Directs emails to your mail server.
    • CNAME Record: Aliases one domain to another (e.g., www.example.com to example.com).
  3. Save the changes.

Step 6: Wait for Propagation #

  • DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours to propagate globally.
  • Use online tools like DNS Checker to confirm the updates are live.

Tips #

  • Always double-check IP addresses and hostnames to ensure accuracy.
  • Contact your hosting provider if you’re unsure about which records to use.
  • If you’re setting up email, ensure your MX records point to the correct mail server.
